Amherst, MA- Stealth Sports Group is excited to announce that John Leonard has been promoted as the Boys Director of Team New England Hockey, effective immediately. As Director, John replaces Brett Boeing, who will continue to serve as a coach within the program.
John hails from Amherst, MA, and is a forward at the University of Massachusetts, in addition to being a draft pick of the San Jose Sharks. John is currently in his sophomore season as a member of the Minutemen. After leading the them in scoring as a freshman, Leonard has topped his previous season by posting an impressive 13-21-34 line through 33 games this season (John Leonard Goal). He has been a key part in UMass' historical success this season, leading them to a Hockey East Regular Season Championship and a #2 ranking in the country (Article on John).
He played his youth hockey with the New England Falcons and Springfield Rifles before attending Springfield Cathedral high School where he tallied 151 points in three seasons, earning a 47-28-75 point line in just 25 games in his third season as a junior in high school. After three years at Springfield Cathedral, John decided to play two seasons in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers. While in Green Bay, John graduated and earned his high school diploma in his first season, and tallied 34 points in his second season.
John is looking forward to his increased responsibility within the Team New England program in 2019, and is excited to help guide our TNE teams through their youth and high school hockey careers and on to more. While he will oversee all teams and be on the bench, he will have a strong support staff including, but not limited to, Brett Boeing (UMass Amherst Minutemen), Brad Arvanitis (UMass Amherst Minutemen), Ryan Verrier (New Hampshire Wildcats), George Mika (UMass Amherst Minutemen), and Marco Bozzo (UMass Amherst Minutemen).
